2022 Teachers and Workshops

In 2022 we are welcoming the following teachers to JoY.

Randa Kamel – JoY is honoured to have one of Cairo’s greatest stars to teach and perform at our festival. Internationally acclaimed Oriental dancer Randa is one of the most sought after master teachers of the art, with a huge following across the globe. Randa trained and toured for several years with the world-famous Reda Troupe before she could no longer resist the need to break free, develop her own style, and go solo. Her unique and energetic style of oriental dance is legendary, and her dedication to the art means her style and approach is constantly evolving. Always looking to the quality of her student’s experience, Randa has hosted ‘Randa Kamel of Course’ since 2011 and the ‘Raqs of Course’ Festival since 2014 where she received praise for her knowledge, generosity and warmth as a teacher and host. Her worldwide success is well earned. A true star.

Sara Farouk – Sara lives and works on the dance scene in Cairo. She is well known for her inspiring teaching that has influenced many top UK teachers.

Alexis Southall – Alexis is an internationally renowned teacher, choreographer, performer and producer in the field of fusion bellydance. She has had the privilege to be an invited guest teacher and performer in 23 countries to date, and is known for her precise technique, flawless musicality and her generosity as an instructor. Alexis’ work in dance blends her background in MENAHT dances, Jazz and various street styles. Her greatest love is helping dancers find their voice and individual style in this dance.

Angela Noble – Working as Tribe Zuza Angela offers ATS(R) and World Fusion dance classes in the North East of England. Angela also runs the popular Tribe Zuza store, holidays, and residentials.

Anne Kingston – Anne graduated with a master’s degree in dance and Somatic Wellbeing from the University of Central Lancashire in December 2021 and has over 25 years experience of Middle Eastern dance.

Asif Qu – Asif has been playing and teaching percussion for several years. He has taught at major dance festivals both in the UK and abroad.

Bev Smith – Dancing under the stage name Hazarah, Bev is a Leeds-based dance teacher and performer with a passion for traditional and folkloric dance and music styles. She has taught all over the UK and internationally. She also runs Baladi Bazaar.

Chloe Kenny – Chloe is an international belly dance teacher who packs her classes and performances with personality, cheekiness, and plenty of charisma. Her teaching style is enthusiastic, engaging, inspiring and packed full of fun and sparkle. She is a dynamic chorographer and performer who effortlessly expresses her love for the dance and never stops smiling, which – in turn – leaves all who attend Chloe’s classes full of joy. Chloe organises ‘Shimmy by the Sea’ and ‘Shimmy & Shine’, alongside other events.

Chris Ogden – Chris has been teaching in Yorkshire and Lancashire for over 20 years using her own NorthWind Tribal style. She is known for devising fun, accessible, choreographies in a variety of styles.

Cinzia Di Cioccio (Italy) – Cinzia teaches and performs as a solo dancer and with the Gypsy Caravan Dance Company International.

Helena – Helena is an award-winning professional performer and teacher of Egyptian dance based in Leeds. She is also the director of the Orientale Dance Company.

Joanne Miller – Joanne performs at a variety of events across the UK and also in Cairo. She won the 2016 NADA Glitter Award for Rising Star and is a member of various dance companies.

Kay Taylor – Kay Taylor teaches regular sold out classes in the North East, she teaches workshops and at festivals around the UK and internationally.  One student, Claudia, said of Kay ‘I didn’t realise how lucky we were until I moved away.  Kays classes are packed full of information, she spends time ensuring you do the move correctly and creates a fun and inclusive environment. I always came away from classes energised and inspired’.  Kay runs festivals and events around the UK either as her own company ‘Farida Dance or as a director of ‘Bellydance Now’.  These include Londons longest running festival, ‘Fantasia’ and ‘Shimmy Up North’ near Lancaster.  As Farida Adventures, Kay has been running specialist bellydance holidays for over 20 years so is always up to date with Cairo trends.  As Bellydance Now, Kay also manages and runs the on line academic courses for dancers that want to continue learning.

Maria D’Silva – Egyptian dance artiste, master teacher, also judge and events organiser. Maria is recognised for her contribution to raising the standard of Egyptian dance and continues to share her passion through her teaching and dynamic performances. Both enriching dancers with her knowledge and to raise the profile of the Egyptian Dance as an art form. Founder of the ‘Belly Dance Mania’ festival. Maria has travelled extensively and performed in numerous countries and represented the UK teaching an performing.

Michelle Pender – Michelle works as a ‘scare actor’ on zombie runs as well as teaching and running her souk.

Moyra Banks – Moyra is an accomplished belly dance teacher, performer and choreographer based in Edinburgh. She is a fully qualified JWAAD teacher and, as well as running regular classes in Edinburgh, teaches at many UK festivals, She is a principle dancer of the ‘Helwa’ troupe.

Nawarra (Morocco/UK) – Nawarra studies arts and Drama at University in Morocco before coming to the UK. She loves to entertain and brings a great passion, high energy, and a sense of fun to every performance. She teaches regularly at festivals across the world.

Sarah Selwood – Sarah is based in Leeds and has studies a variety of dance styles. She has danced with the Orientale Dance Company and Dancers Bizarre.

Serena Ramzy – Serena was born in Sao Paulo and is renowned for her musicality and expressiveness. Serena toured with Hossam Ramzy to perform and teach, and they founded the Drumzy School of Music & Dance, producing tow DVD’s. Serena has her own dance company that has performed all around the world. Her performances vary from classical and traditional folklore to modern improvised dance.

Tracey Gibbs – Tracy has been involved with the dance since the 1980’s. Se has been a performer, teacher and creator of the well-respected agency ‘Taste of Cairo’. Back in 2016, taking a leap into the unknown world of theatre lighting, Tracey graduated with a 1st Class BA Hons from LIPA in 2019 and was just beginning to forge a new and exciting path when Covid-19 saw the closure of theatres for almost 2 years. Further adventures into VR in 2020 and a chance to take some time away from dance was needed, with ‘Taste of Cairo’ now in very safe hands with one of her early signings, and theatre beginning to return. She is now looking to begin monthly workshops in Manchester to dig a little deeper into the technique and soul of the dance she loves.
